Why this exists
We've booked our own shows for 40 years. ActBook is every lesson from all of them.
We're Teresa and Sem Abrahams. In 1986 we started Semcycle,
a unicycle act that toured schools, festivals and arenas for the next thirty-five years,
and today we run Cirque Amongus, our circus company. Between them we've
booked our own shows for four decades. Back then it all lived on a Mac, in HyperCard,
held together by a wall of sticky notes and the sentence we came to dread most:
“let me check and get back to you.”
That sentence cost us shows. A school would call, we'd take three days to reply, and
they'd book someone else. Two enquiries would land the same afternoon and we'd
accidentally double-book a Saturday. The performing was never the hard part — the
eleven emails before the show were.
So in 2000 we rebuilt the whole thing in real software, and we've been
sharpening it on our own bookings every year since. It knows when we're actually free,
sends the contract, and invoices from the same booking — so those eleven emails
became one link a client taps to book us. That system is ActBook. It
still runs our company today, and now you can run yours on it.
